Our Community Involvement

How We Give Back to Our Community

At Sam C. Mitchell & Associates, we care a great deal about our clients and the families we serve across Southern Illinois. As a staple of the area since 1968, we also believe in giving back to our community at large. To that end, we make it our mission to support as many local and statewide charities, organizations, and events as possible each year. We do this because we truly care about the people we serve, and we believe in using our time, resources, and funds to better the area in which we work and live.

Since 2016, our firm has supported approximately 213 different charitable organizations and initiatives, donating about $76,000 total. In 2019 alone, we funneled more than $26,000 back into our community by making donations, funding scholarships, and supporting worthwhile causes in the local area.

Veterans’ Honor Flight of Illinois

Last June, we were proud to support the second annual Golf Scramble fundraiser, with proceeds benefitting the Veteran’s Honor Flight of Illinois. Held in Carbondale, last year’s event successfully raised more than $25,000. You can see pictures from the event on our Facebook page.

Additionally, last May, Attorney Matthew H. Caraway was selected to serve as a guardian on the organization’s free trip to Washington, D.C. for veterans. The organization provides free trips to Washington, D.C. for veterans to visit various monuments and memorials. Matt was honored to take part in this event, as he is a veteran himself, having served with the Illinois Air National Guard for seven years.

Classroom Kindness Challenge

The Classroom Kindness Challenge encourages kids and teens to be kind to others while also spotlighting bullying in our schools. Students who participated in the challenge completed positive tasks, such as saying hello to someone new or paying someone a compliment, from a Classroom Kindness Challenge Board. Once the board was completed, teachers could upload a picture of the board, along with their students, for a chance to win a “Doughnut Be a Bully” party, as well as $500 for classroom supplies. Sam C. Mitchell & Associates was proud to partner with WSIL-TV 3 and Kyle R. Childers Orthodontics for this positive challenge. You can learn more here!

WF Fantasy of Lights Parade & Downtown Tree Lighting

This past holiday season, Sam C. Mitchell & Associates was a proud sponsor of the WF Fantasy of Lights Parade and Downtown Tree Lighting in West Frankfort. The event featured a Christmas parade, visits with Santa, and a tree lighting ceremony with carolers, concessions, and more.

Southern Illinois Sluggers

Sam C. Mitchell & Associates is proud to be a sponsor of the SI Sluggers! SI Sluggers is a youth baseball organization that provides a place for kids to learn about teamwork and develop their athletic skills.

Southern Illinois Chili Cook-Off

We are proud to be corporate sponsors of the Southern Illinois Chili Cook-Off, a fundraiser that benefits the Heartland Rotary of Williamson County. This past year’s event took place on November 2, 2019 and was a tremendous success, with numerous awards handed out to this year’s participants.

Herrin House of Hope Family Fun Day

Sam C. Mitchell & Associates is honored to be one of the sponsors of the Herrin House of Hope Family Fun Day, a free, family-oriented event aimed at helping those in need. The event includes live music, worship teams and choruses, a food court, and more. All proceeds go to benefit the Herrin House of Hope.
